Barry Hearn has stated he'd like to see the No.1 spot based on points a rolling system, so the World no.1 will then possibly change from tournament to tournament.

The present system is bias, it's always been the case, with the Hearn system, the player rankings will change very frequently, and at present World Snooker only update their rankings after each tournament.

Q: Is it possible for you to build a system that can be updated immediately and shown as the tournament progresses.

Also within in this, can you include within it, that if someone drops out of the whole game, the the system will update showing the current situation. With the impending ban, where does Ronnie stand within the Rankings, I know he lost his No.1 position after China, but will Robertson still be No.1 if he loses?

Hope this makes sense, was impressed with the other article with the spread sheets and graphs, hence the question.

Excellent work 99....Wiki has some more on it...

Its a dynamic comparison of players abilities that more accurately portrays form trends and discourages complacency. Its a system that forces players to perform on every outing and therefore promotes improvement in game standard. The rate of increase or decrease in rankings is proportionate to the difference of a players ranking on each outing. The bigger the scalp the more points can be gained or lost.

Constants can be introduced into the equation to offset volatility. The beauty of it is that players can progress through the ranks more briskly and so be rewarded for their efforts more instantly. Not to mention the fact that new faces are more likely to appear on screen which would aid HEARNS plight for change within the sport.

A recent example could be drawn from Neil Robertsons match with Fergal O'brien in the WOrlds...should Fergal have won, Neils ranking would have plummeted and Fergals improved with similar magnitude. The movement of players in this fashion could be construed as a bonus where promotion is concerned. So yeah there are definite advantages in overhauling the present system. ELO could well be the answer.

Barry where are you

A rolling system can be made pretty simply...but it can't be demonstrated where all the players would be now because the system causes changes from tournament to tournament that can't be predicted.

A simple sytem is a rolling ranking over 1.5 years. Every tournament updates the rank points and the position of all players. Mark King would have found himself outside top 16 ages ago by this, although he may have fought back in, no one can tell.

What we do know is the present system is useless.
