Ok snooker experts. I need a new cue, but I am not that serious about my game that I would fork out huge sums of money.

So I need a decent cue between prices 25-50 quid.

Any ideas?

The best thing to do is go to a warehouse that makes cues and try them all out before you buy. I don't know if Craftsmen Cues in Kippax is still going but that's where I've bought all my cues from in the past. I tried about 30 and narrowed it down from there. The last time I went the cue that felt best didn't look as good as some others and was cheaper but it was the one for me because it felt right.

If you do go, don't limit yourself to price if you can help it. Spending £100 may seem like it breaks the bank, but bear in mind how long you'll have it. It's also worth getting a couple of extensions and a decent case at the same time.

Edit - http://www.craftsmancues.com/

They're still going and it looks pretty similar. If the same bloke is there that I remember then he's a miserable ****** but he makes outstanding cues. Well worth a trip over to Kippax (which is a pretty horrible place it must be said).

Cool - a snooker dartboard!

or

I am not that serious to spend 100 quid on something that has a small chance of being snapped within a year <laugh> seriously, don't think that will happen again though :cool4:

seif, sorry to say that £25 isn't going to buy you a good cue. I think you need to spend at least £70+ to get something that is actually well made.

However, first you need to decide what length, tip size, 1 or 2 piece, weight and wood you prefer. If you are not too bothered about specifics, as a rough guide would be 57-58 inches in length, with a 9-10mm tip size and around 17-19oz in weight. You then have either ash or maple to choose from.

There are a few different manufacturers to choose from, but for that kind of money I would look for an O'MIN cue as they are actually pretty decent, but you may have to pay around £90-100 for a used one. There are usually 1 or 2 on ebay or a few retailers that sell them. Keep your eyes peeled and you may get lucky!

I certainly didn't mean anywhere near a pro cue or even "great" by decent I mean playable and lastable for an amateur. I got a pretty good one for 50 quid :)

You checked that book for me arbitrage? <cool>

Just a rather basic cue with solid metal case. Not bad but will do the trick :)

Dont be misled into thinking cost has anything to do with playability of a cue...Ive spent up to a thousand for cues on a few occasions and yeah theyre great works of art...BUT you know the BEST CUE i have ever owned cost only $50.

As long as it feels good as your delivering through the ball your on a winner...in regards to maintenance > dont go overboard with the sandpaper...I use 500 grit...or damp cloth depending whether im trying to rejuvenate the grain or achieve a simple clean..treat the thing as a precision instrument and it should last a while.

Oh and work on that HB...i needs looking @...hahahahaa
